The searcher of the heart, fully knows our longings and intentions, yet he also understands the desires of God, because the Holy Spirit passionately pleads before God for us perfect harmony with God’s plan and our destiny. Romans 8:27
Last time we saw that there is an unprecedented hunger among Christians…but not for the processed, filtered, and watered down version of the Christian faith. We want the organic, non-GMO truth. We want to view the Word of God through the lenses that only the Holy Spirit can provide for us. And that’s the Spirit’s job.
The Spirit who inspired Scripture transforms the thinking of Christians and enables us to have a Spirit-led understanding of God’s Word (as well as the messages of those teaching it). As we grow in our Christian experience and knowledge of truth, the Spirit guides us to understand and apply that truth in our lives. The Spirit does work in our lives to enable us to interpret correctly, embrace, understand, and apply Scripture in our lives and plans (1 John 2:20, 27; Rom 8:9; 1 Cor 2:16, etc.)
We are given the correct thinking to have a whole-hearted understanding and embracing of the Word as truth. And as we get to understand and know God better, the eyes of our hearts/minds are enlightened to know the truth more deeply (Eph 1:18).
The importance of the Holy Spirit being the one who interprets the Bible and spiritual teaching to us is that only He understands us…He’s called ‘the searcher of hearts’. He knows our current condition as well as our destiny. He knows the presumptions and experiences that guide how we think and feel. He truly empathizes with who we really are and is bringing the Word to us in a personalized way.
But He also knows God’s truth—His will for us—His plan for our lives—His intention to do exceedingly abundantly beyond what we can even conceive of.
So as we are conformed to the image of Jesus through the mind-transforming work of the Spirit as He interprets the Word of God into our lives. More on this next time…
